update: will it be wong?
At this point, many may be disappointed if Wong's new film doesn't open the festival. And will observers be equally let down if the lineup doesn't include the new films from Michael Moore, Woody Allen, The Coen Brothers, Steven Soderbergh, Harmony Korine, and Gus Van Sant? [Oh, and I almost forgot, Todd Haynes is widely tipped for the fest.] Anyway, we'll know very soon... One thing's for sure, Wong Kar Wai has a spot on the official poster for the 60th Festival de Cannes, check it out on indieWIRE's Cannes blog. If "My Blueberry Nights" is picked to kick off Cannes, fest planners should tell him that the fest's opening date has moved to May 14th, so that the film is actually ready for the first day. Two years ago, his "2046" arrived in Cannes a day late. UPDATE: Over at The Hollywood Reporter, ace reporter Rebecca Leffler weighs in with the latest buzz about the anticipated Cannes titles.
