Getting a firm grasp on this year's IFP Market was honestly a bit tough. By the time I returned from Toronto, the event was already underway downtown. I hadn't even had a moment to review the lineup before I was already sitting in a theater to watch the opening night film. And the next thing I knew I was moderating a mid-week panel about the "state of independent film" and the following day it was time for the awards luncheon.

The week was a blur, but at the same time, it drew new and old friends to Manhattan for a week of valuable mixing and mingling, while Tuesday night's roster of private parties rivaled a night at Sundance. At lunch earlier this week, I chatted with a veteran fest programmer who told me that the screening rooms were often rather empty. Tonight, looking through some of the postcards I collected from filmmakers that I met this week, I found myself wishing there were an online component to the event so that I could watch some of the trailers and clips from the comfort of home. Much of the action seemed to be at the Puck Building for panels and schmoozing. The session I moderated on Wednesday apparently drew more than 300 people and certainly sparked a number of terrific questions from attendees.
