yup, “blood simple” is back

In a recent review of Henrik Ruben Ganz’s “Terribly Happy,” critic Dan Savage called the film, “a Danish ‘Blood Simple’.”

Adam Yauch’s Oscilloscope announced its deal for the new Danish thriller moments after iW posted the news that Sony Classics is backing Zhang Yimou’s remake of The Coen Brothers’ 1984 film.

It all makes me want to go back to the original.

Blood Simple.  The first movie I saw that actually dealt with the after effects of killing somebody in a realistic way—like you’re not going to just go on the way you were before you killed someone—and metaphorically as well as literally, how impossible it would be to clean up the mess an act like that might leave behind.  Proof that genius is born, not raised.

Thanks for the memory, Eugene, I have to go update my favorite movies list now—-RQD
