Yauch: “It’s a pain in the neck”...

“It’s a pain in the neck,” joked Adam Yauch about his cancer diagnosis today. But, as he told indieWIRE, it’s business as usual for his busy film company, Oscilloscope. More at indieWIRE…

In March at SXSW, Yauch chats with CineVegas’ Mike Plante. Also pictured: Sundance/CineVegas programmer Trevor Groth, Oscilloscope’s David Fenkel and 42 West’s Cynthia Swartz.

hedwig hearts farrah

An homage to Farrah, on Facebook today, from amigo Mike Potter, keeper of the wig of John Cameron Mitchell’s film and play, “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.”

“People always say it’s Farrah Fawcett, but to me it looks more like a George Washington powdered wig,” Potter said back in 2001. “John says that the wings on her wig are her lungs. I look at it as her defense mechanism—like the horns on a battering ram. When she’s onstage, she’s wearing her big wig and her face is like a mask to protect her. But everyone has their own take on it.”

More on the late Farrah Fawcett at indieWIRE.

spot the film blogger?

A prolific film blogger is pictured in ad campaign image from the Liz Claiborne website. Do you see her?  Make a guess then head over to the site to see if you are right. (click the little image next to the person to reveal their name)

The fashionable blogger told me today that she was cast for the shoot by “Billy The Kid” director Jennifer Venditti (with help from Pamela Cohn). The image was shot in Hell’s Kitchen near Isaac Mizrahi’s studio (he’s also pictured), by Arthur Elgort. Fun!

Did you guess correctly?

Wong Kar Wai‘s re-envisioned “Ashes of Time” is one of the most beautiful films I’ve seen in quite some time. As an example, watch the faces of the film’s leads—Brigitte Lin, Tony Leung, Leslie Cheung—which are often used like a scrim. Faint shadows from an adjacent spinning birdcage or the reflections of nearby running water add texture to their faces as they interact with each other. And then theres the enhanced colors of the exteriors and the striking slow-mo action sequences.

Watching the film on Friday morning at the Walter Reade Theater, I found myself so enthralled by the imagery that I was kept getting lost in the evasive storyline. The ambitious production, started - stopped and then re-started- stopped, in the Chinese desert near Mongolia, yielded Wong’s “Chungking Express,” which was made during a break in the making of the film. Scarlet Cheng takes a closer look in today’s NY Times. The film opens in NYC on Oct. 10th.

“You’re all going to HELL!” screamed Bill Maher (left) at Monday’s Peggy Siegal lunch for the Lions Gate release of the Larry Charles (seated, right) film, “Religulous.” Maher’s film will no doubt play to his base. Hardly an objective exploration of religion, it’s more a travelogue of his journey to counter (and poke fun at) fanatics.

Maher and Charles were warmly greeted by a mix of boldfaced names, from Kathleen Turner and Caroline Rhea to Nora Ephron and Janeane Garofalo. The eclectic mix offered a rather uproarious lunchtime conversation. A highlight for me, beyond sitting with Kathleen Turner, was chatting with Joy Behar, who said she was convinced we’d met before and added that I looked like someone from the neighborhood she grew up in. Ah, NYC…
