iran | “where is my vote”

**this blog post has been modified at the request of people close to a foreigner, someone i know, in Iran who was previously mentioned on this blog. the person’s friends are concerned for the individual’s safety and security in Iran, so i removed his name from here and facebook. crazy situation.

“Where is my vote” and “where is their vote” are the emerging slogans for the ongoing post election uprising in Iran. And wow, this photo from a foreigner in Iran says it all. I ran into the foreigner recently and he has been in Iran for some time… More from him on Nicholas Kristof’s blog.

“If this outcome is allowed to stand, we now have a situation where tens of millions of Iranians will be going through the next four years believing that the president was installed by force in a coup de etat, whereas in the past there was merely a sensation of creeping, teeth-grinding dissatisfaction with the antics of those in power,” the foreigner recently wrote. “The difference may seem academic, but it is fundamental. In history, Iranians have always eventually brought down governments which were regarded as not respecting the will and needs of the people to an unbearable degree. But only time will tell what the real consequences of all of this are.”

Finally had a chance to check out David Bergman’s cool 1,474-megapixel “Gigapan” photo taken during Obama’s Inauguration speech. As I was panning around trying to find some friends in the crowd (and then looking for Aretha Franklin’s hat), I stumbled across a certain Supreme Court Justice… sleeping!

it’s obama time

While I’m in Utah for Sundance, I’ll admit to having a bit of Inauguration envy, with my amigo Tim in DC for the next few days. Here’s a photo he posted on Facebook with Obama speaking at this afternoon’s “We Are One” concert. Like many other films, we’ll be calling a bit of a halt to our Sundance frenzy on Tuesday morning to watch the festivities…
