obama: “at some point people will start focusing again on things like nuclear weapons”

From an ABC News interview with President Obama, a brief comment on Michael Jackson:

Having joked that he’d have to discuss Michael Jackson in order to get media coverage of the U.S.-Russian summit, the president said he wasn’t at all irritated by the media attention to the funeral of the King of Pop.

“You know, this is part of American culture,” the president said. “Michael Jackson, like Elvis, like Sinatra, when somebody whose captivated the imagination of the country for that long passes away, people pay attention. And I assume at some point people will start focusing again on things like nuclear weapons.”

nyt | los angeles proposes restraints on paparazzi

britney_paris_lindsayBLOG.jpgFrom today’s New York Times: A city task force convened Thursday morning to tackle a serious public safety… The perpetrators: ravenous bands of paparazzi. The proposed solution: new laws to rein them in….the Los Angeles Police Department was absent from the hearing. In an early morning television interview, Police Chief William J. Bratton, who opposes any new laws concerning paparazzi, called the hearing a “total waste of time.”

“If you notice,” Chief Bratton said, “since Britney started wearing clothes and behaving; Paris is out of town not bothering anybody, thank God; and, evidently, Lindsay Lohan has gone gay, we don’t seem to have much of an issue.”
