sundance oh-nine | the best (and worst)

What were the best and worst films and performances of Sundance 2009? Over the weekend, we polled thirty film critics and bloggers to find out. “Push” and “The Cove” topped the survey in the best category, while “The Informers” was named the worst.

Of the 18 films that I saw, my ballot (number one slots only) was as follows:

BEST NARRATIVE:
1. “Sin Nombre”

BEST DOC:
1. “El General”

WORST FILM:
1. “I Love You Phillip Morris”

You can check out the full list of results at indieWIRE.

sundance oh-nine | sundancing

A few years ago, John Cooper and the Sundance Film Festival programmers lead the audience in a “Sun Dance” on closing night. The move lightened the mood and ever since it seems that the closing night party has become more and more of a dance party. Here’s two minutes from last night’s party. [I recommend watching the high quality version via YouTube.]

While you’re at it, check out more of my blog dancing videos.

sundance oh-nine | “push” times three

Backstage at the Sundance Film Festival awards ceremony a few minutes ago, “Push” director Lee Daniels, winner of three awards, celebrates with Cinetic’s John Sloss. Cinetic was stoking a sale of the film as the ceremony began tonight, having already stirred the support of Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, according to insiders. Expect Sloss and Cinetic to slow things down a bit now as they bask in the glow of the triple win tonight (and probably try to raise the price amidst a market that has been rather slow at Sundance). The complete winners story is at indieWIRE.com.
