The indieWIRE team (Brian, Peter, Ashley and I) encountered an exhausting full day inside the Palais as we prepared and published the first day of Cannes coverage ahead of Wednesday's big opening day. indieWIRE's first dispatch was posted tonight and we have prepped a bunch of market news stories for the opening day edition of the Cannes Market News.
Brian and I made it out into the warm air just a couple of times during the day, once for high-rise balcony interview at the Grand Hotel with Fortissimo co-chief Michael Werner. He's already been in Cannes for 5 days and remarked that each year buyers and sellers seem to arrive in town earlier. Werner and his colleagues -- in a series of back-to-back 15 minute meetings with buyers -- have already concluded 2 days of sales sessions inside their large suite. But, Werner added that this was the last day he'd be able to lounge around the meetings wearing casual shorts.
Heading back to the Palais to meet an impending deadling, Brian and I crossed paths with Wong Kar-wai on the Croisette, he was apparently headed up to see his friends at Fortissimo. Can't wait to see his new film is just about 9 hours!
