Sitting in the opening press conference taking place right now at the Kimball Art Center in Park City, Sundance Film Festival director Geoff Gilmore is talking about a new Sundance initiative that is entirely in sync with where indieWIRE is heading... The Sundance Institute is announcing a new arthouse initiative in which programmers from more than a dozen regional arthouse curators will be in Park City to develop a program of screenings to take back to their own theaters. He explained, "This is a real chance to bring independent film out of the centers and connect with a range of communities."
This is something that is crucial to us at indieWIRE, and this weekend we'll be announcing our own unrelated plans to explore and support films and filmmaking outside of New York and Los Angeles. It remains a key committment for us as we approach our tenth anniversary this July.
