kongshot.jpgI watched "King Kong" on opening night Wednesday in Times Square...I find it interesting that nearly every glowing review I read includes a disclaimer about the movie being too long. Same thing with friends who say they like the movie -- they say its too long, but still praise it. My problem with the movie starts with its length. While "King Kong" has some truly great, entertaining sequences, its just too long...unfocused, at times messy. Peter Jackson can do -- and should have done -- better. There is a very good movie in there.

Some critics have praised "Kong" as being an "homage to the movies" by being many types of movie all in one...again, thats its problem. Focus! Don't get me wrong, I love a good, loud, big, blockbuster every now and again. I was simply disappointed with "Kong," as much as I really wanted to like it a lot. It made me want to see "Jurassic Park" and "Jaws" again.

I don't think I am alone...the film was met with mild applause when it ended, followed by a Times Square attendee who yelled out -- as the credits rolled -- "2 out of 10!"

I liked this entry in a personal blog...

KONG had some great moments, but yeah, it really needed to focus. So many parts on the island were so superfluous. The Empire State sequence did give me extreme vertigo, however, and the film had some classic moments... my personal favorite element was Ann's screams. They were those perfect, echoing Hollywood screams that gave me goosebumps.
