With the announcement of numerous critics awards and nominations today, Oscar season is heading into a big week. The New York Film Critics Circle will weigh in tomorrow and the Golden Globes will name their nominees on Tuesday.
In a truly unscientific survey counting the many individual wins and nominations announced just this afternoon, four films were in the lead today "The Social Network" (23), "Black Swan" (12), "The Fighter" (12) and "The King's Speech" (12). Again, that's just a quick tally, but a way to score the films that may be leading the race, so far.

Meanwhile, over at Movie City News, I've got my latest round of predictions for the ten films that will score a best picture nomination next month (a group of us are being polled regularly as part of MCN's annual Gurus o Gold). My roster of predictions is listed below (as of last week). Reminder, these are not necessarily my personal favorites, but my best guesses for the best picture race.
1. The King's Speech
2. The Social Network
3. True Grit
4. Black Swan
6. Toy Story 3
7. The Fighter
8. Winter's Bone
9. The Kids Are All Right
10. Rabbit Hole
