"I'm not a good photographer," said Bill Cunningham, in a profile he wrote about himself for the New York Times eight years, "To be perfectly honest, I'm too shy. Not aggressive enough. Well, I'm not aggressive at all. I just loved to see wonderfully dressed women, and I still do. That's all there is to it."

Cunningham's photos are published each week in The Times, capturing fashionable women on the streets of New York and society types at parties. Can't wait to check out a doc about Cunningham tonight ("Bill Cunningham New York"), it's the opening night film at New Directors/New Films. Word is that Anna Wintour (pictured here in Cunningham's gaze) will be at MoMA for tonight's premiere.

Talking about the film, in a recent indieWIRE interview, director Richard Press called Cunningham's work, "cultural anthropology."
