The "Shortbus" tour rolled on last night with the New York City premiere featuring live performances by John Cameron Mitchell and film cast members, modeled equally fun events in Cannes and Toronto. It was probably the best NYC film party of the year so far. I spotted a few celebrity well-wishers among the large crowd at the Angel Orensanz Foundation on Norfolk. To namedrop a few boldfaced names...Tim and I chatted up with new New Yorker Miguel Arteta but when JCM started belting out Origin of Love from "Hedwig and the Angry Inch we immediately stopped our conversation to move closer and listen, Miguel grabbing his phone to record the moment. Meanwhile, I also caught up briefly with Michael Stipe who was ebullient after the film, particularly overjoyed by the ending. He and his longtime boyfriend were up front enjoying much the show. Meanwhile, Parker Posey chatted with Brian and I for a bit and posed for an upcoming iPOP shot, while we missed the chance to snap Rufus Wainwright...

My personal highlight of the evening is pictured above, a performance by discovery Scott Matthew (right), with music producer Louis Schwadron on the french horn. Matthew wrote "In The End", the film's glorious finale, and he performs his songs "Upside Down" and "Language" in the film. Looking forward to hearing more of his music...and as for the "Shortbus" soundtrack, the film's producer Howard Gertler told me tonight that while it won't be out until November, Landmark Theaters will carry the soundtrack in early October and online pre-orders are already being accepted online (for delivery in late October).
