Twice today I was asked, by those involved with something recently published in indieWIRE, to go back and change a piece we had already published. Note to those who may ask for such things in the future: Once we hit publish on our end, the story is finished. Consider it printed.
If there is a factual or typographical error, we will correct the error. But we will not go back and change a story to make it more favorable by adding in a flattering quote from a press release or otherwise altering the content or context of the piece. The writer determines the tone when he or she writes it and one of us edits it before it is published.
