While a really nice, new local venue -- actually a Temple -- Sundance's new Temple Theater is an unfortunate new festival site. To go to a movie at the theater is to be banished to a far away place. Shuttles are far too infrequent and require way too much advance planning to make a movie out there. And, in fact, there is no parking. Insiders have been complaining about the distant venue all week.

Sadly, many of the docs I was dying to see this year were playing at the venue, forcing me to miss many I had wanted to see. Early in the fest I spotted the head of a studio speciality division alone trying on the side of the highway, trying to get back to Park City. I was out there this afternoon and am dreading the return trip, as much as I want to see a film screening there this evening.

I can't count the number of times I've been at a festival, or market, and had to miss out on a film I really wanted to see because the venue was so far away from everything else that a two-hour film wound up as a four-hour plus investment. I know logistics are nightmarish for these things, but a little planning goes a long way sometimes.
