As the sun started to set on an outdoor evening reception at Stuart Match Suna's home yesterday in the Hamptons, I was chatting with "Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich. Just as we were talking about Unkrich's determination to maintain some of the more intense moments of "TS3," "Blue Valentine" director Derek Cianfrance showed up.
I introduced the two filmmakers to each other and we pivoted to a chat about some of the more intense moments of "Blue Valentine." I teased Cianfrance about making an X-rated but then we talked more seriously about the shock of the film garnering an NC-17 from the MPAA. Lead by distributor Harvey Weinstein, the BV team plan to fight the rating. Lawyers will get involved, I'm told. It should be interesting to see how this plays out.
