Anyone who has seen Jesus Camp is familiar with the fundamentalist crusade to cast the Harry Potter books as Satanic recruiting tools, designed to lure unsuspecting, defenseless children into a cult of evil-doers.

Yesterday morning, I woke up to the following headline in the Atlanta Journal and Constitution:
"State board will hear woman's objections to Harry Potter."

According to Yahoo! News:

"Laura Mallory, a mother of four, told a hearing officer for the Gwinnett County Board of Education on Tuesday that the popular fiction series is an "evil" attempt to indoctrinate children in the Wicca religion."

(Now, who would take advantage of children like that?)

It should be hoped that the Gwinnett County Board of Education will reject the proposed solution to ban the books from schools. Given that this is the same country where "libraries temporarily eliminated funding for Spanish-language fiction," we can not be so optimistic.

Meanwhile, Frank Zappa is rolling in his grave.
