Film Recap: "Maria Full of Grace," "Bright Young Things," "The Garden of Earthly Delights," "Born into Brothels"
Joshua Marston's "Maria Full of Grace," opens in July, a very powerful and also cliche-avoiding look at a young drug mule. Impressive directing and a breathtaking performance from newcomer Catalina Sandino Moreno. Stephen Fry's "Bright Young Things," opens in August. Successful as a satire and with some comedic moments, but I didn't buy the love story. Impressive staging for an early 30s period film, and some fine performances. I also attended the Bermuda Film Festival last week (rough job but somebody had to do it) and saw a horribly pretentious film called "The Garden of Earthly Delights" -- avoid this one. I also caught some great flicks there, most notably Zana Briski and Ross Kaufmann's "Born Into Brothels," which I had missed at Sundance. I'll file a full report on Bermuda -- with fun iPop pictures -- early this week on indieWIRE. Posted by indiewendy at 05:28PM on Mar 26, 2004
