At The Lot, a flowered expanse of stage and office space that once housed the free-spirited United Artists studio, a collection of directors and actors gathers outside in the sun. The scene makes an appropriate home base for one of L.A.'s independent film festival, DancesWithFilms, which began its eighth annual exhibition on Friday.
