"Sorrell and Son" Screening in Hollywood

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will launch its new "Lost and Found" series with the screening of the 1927 film "Sorrell and Son" on Thursday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. The film, which hasn't been seen by audiences in more than 60 years, was recently discovered among the Academy Film Archive's holdings and has been restored, although its last reel is still missing. The film's ending has been reconstructed using still photographs and title cards. Michael Mortilla will accompany the screening with live music on piano.

Written and directed by Herbert Brenon, "Sorrell and Son" was nominated in the "best direction of a dramatic picture" category for the first Academy Awards. The silent, black-and-white film stars H.B. Warner and Nils Asther as a father and son who try to maintain their relationship and integrity despite falling into poverty.
