How Her Little Play Became His Big Movie

In 2001, Amy Fox's "Heights," a one-act play about a rooftop confrontation among three young New Yorkers, was produced at the Ensemble Studio Theater. About the same time, Chris Terrio was finishing his thesis film at the University of Southern California. Their careers converged the next year, at the offices of Merchant Ivory in New York.
