JOHN TURTURRO TO RECEIVE INAUGURAL BROOKLYN EXCELLENCE AWARD AT THE 8TH ANNUAL BROOKLYN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

On Sunday, June 12th, acclaimed actor, writer, director John Turturro will receive an award honoring his inspirational commitment to independent filmmaking, as well as his longstanding history with Brooklyn. Presented by the Brooklyn International Film Festival, this award is being given to Mr. Turturro in honor of his creative talent, his artistic courage, and for bringing the spirit of Brooklyn to the world at large through his work. Born in Brooklyn, Turturro continues to live and work there, having starred in Brooklyn classics like Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" and "Mo'Better Blues" and having just directed his latest film "Romance & Cigarettes" in Brooklyn and Queens. This award will be presented at 10:00pm on June 12th at the BiFF's closing night ceremony at the Brooklyn Museum's Cantor Auditorium, along with the awards for the festival's jury selections, which will total $65,000 in prizes. The ceremony will be broadcast live on the festival website.
