Two box office stories for a Sunday:
Sony Classics' release of Atom Egoyan's “Chloe” found fair numbers in its opening weekend, Peter Knegt reports today for indieWIRE, noting that Niels Arden Oplev's "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" (Music Box) and Noah Baumbach's “Greenberg” (Focus) held on well in week two. More in the iW box office column.
Over at Thompson On Hollywood, contributor Anthony D’Alessandro tracked 3-D entries battling it out for the top spot. "How to Train Your Dragon" topped "Alice in Wonderland." "While some box office analysts are crying foul that this figure reps a paltry opening weekend, particularly for a 3D film saddled with an estimated $165-million budget, these claims overlook the fact that animation films are a different breed at the box office than run-of-the-mill features. Toons have longer legs," he wrote.
