Comedian to Host Gotham Independent Film Awards

The Independent Filmmaker Project has announced that comedian Kumail Nanjiani will serve as host of the 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards, scheduled to take place November 30th in New York City.

The comic has opened for Zach Galifianakis and Stella, performed at the The Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in NY, and has recently been featured in the New York Times, Variety, and New York Magazine.

“We are thrilled to have Kumail host the 19th Annual Gotham Awards,” said Michelle Byrd, executive director of IFP in a statement. “Not only is he wildly funny, but he’s also a huge cinephile. The awards ceremony is the perfect platform to introduce him to our audience."

IFP also announced the first batch of confirmed presenters at the awards including: Shohreh Aghdashloo, Joel and Ethan Coen, Willem Dafoe, Anthony Mackie, Oliver Platt, Jim Sheridan, Brooke Shields and Meryl Streep. [Andy Lauer]
