Dimitris Eipides has been named the new Director of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, following the resignation of Despina Mouzaki. Eipides said the 51st edition of the festival in Greece's second largest city will take place December 3 - 11, slightly later than its usual November dates. Eipides has long been a member of Thessaloniki, which he has served in various significant positions for the past 17 years. In 1993 he introduced the New Horizons section, which became a significant component of the festival, and in 1999 he founded the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival - Images of the 21st Century (TDF), which is held annually in March. He will continue to lead that event. Since 1988, Eipides has served as a senior international programmer at the Toronto International Film Festival, and he has more recently worked as program director at the Reykjavik International Film Festival.
