Exclusive Media Group (EMG) has announced that it will acquire production and distribution company Newmarket Films. The union will give EMG a group of companies that includes Newmarket, Spitfire Pictures, Hammer and Exclusive Film Distribution. The Newmarket deal includes a library of 250 films.

EMG said in a statement today that they will, "substantially expand and recapitalise Newmarket’s US theatrical distribution operation with plans to acquire and release 4 - 6 films a year." The companies recently worked together to acquire Jon Amiel’s "Creation," opener at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival. Newmarket is releasing the film in the US in January 2010.

Newmarket's Chris Ball, Chris Calhoon, Rene Cogan, John Crye and Robert Fyvolent will be merged into EMG’s US Operations, while co-founder Will Tyrer, in the words of a statement, "will continue to have a close informal relationship with the team." Nigel Sinclair, Guy East and Newmarket’s Chris Ball will jointly serve as Co-Chairmen of EMG, with Sinclair serving as group CEO. As well as being Co-Chairman, Chris Ball will be President of EMG USA, according to the announcement. Guy East will be Chairman of Exclusive Film Distribution – the year old sales, distribution and marketing unit. EMG’s Simon Oakes will be President and CEO of Hammer, as well as being Vice-Chairman of the EMG Board. EMG’s Marc Schipper and Andy Mayson will remain on the group’s Executive Board, as COO and Managing Director/CFO respectively. [Eugene Hernandez]
