The Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Fest will prepare for its opening night gala, next Friday. The opening night film, "Spring Fever," by Chinese director Lou Ye premiered earlier this year at Toronto. The film's description in the Toronto program: "With the freedom lent him by a non-intrusive digital camera, controversial filmmaker Lou Ye casts a clandestine look on the yearning beauty of forbidden love in Spring Fever, his latest and most lyrical work to date. In making this film, Lou defies the five-year ban on his work imposed by Chinese authorities in response to his 2006 feature, Summer Palace. He also breaks the taboo of showing explicit scenes of same-sex lovemaking, rendering the ambiguity and fragility of modern relationships with curiosity and humility." The gala event will be attended by the cast of "Spring Fever" and "Taiwanese" hit "Beautiful Crazy." [Bryce J Renninger]
