It was announced today that Lionsgate has acquired North American distribution rights to Marc Forster's latest, "Machine Gun Preacher." This marks the studio's first collaboration with Forster since his Oscar-winning "Monster's Ball."
The fact-based action drama stars Gerard Butler as Reverend Sam Childers and Michelle Monaghan as his wife, Lynn Childers. Rounding out the cast is Oscar nominee Michael Shannon ("Revolutionary Road"), Madeline Carroll and Kathy Baker.
Lionsgate offered this synopsis of the film: "After renouncing his outlaw ways, Sam Childers embarks on a spiritual path, becoming a warrior for the desperate and helpless children in a war-torn country in Africa."
Principal photography for the film, written by Jason Keller, is slated to begin July 5th in Detroit and South Africa. Expect to see it in theaters in the fall of 2011.
