As part of a nationwide celebration of Tennessee Williams surrounding the December 30th release of the film "The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond," based on a rediscovered Williams screenplay, the Museum of the Moving Image is planning a panel discussion at the Times Center on December 9 as well as a retrospective at the IFC Center the first two weekends in December. Moderated by NY Times theater critic Charles Isherwood, the panel will include "The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond" director Jodie Markell and stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Ellen Burstyn, plus the legendary stage actress Elaine Stritch ("The Lighter Side of Tennessee Williams") and Eli Wallach, who starred in the film adaptation of Williams' "Baby Doll."

Other Williams activities in November and December include: the induction of Williams into the Poets’ Corner at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine (November 5), the Australian production of “A Streetcar Named Desire” starring Cate Blanchett and directed by Liv Ullmann at BAM (November 27-December 20), a retrospective of classic Williams teleplays at The Paley Center (December 11-13), and a film retrospective at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles (December 9).
