After the death and reincarnation of New Yorker Films, the company has announced its first acquisition. Toronto '09 alum, Paul and Sandra Fierlinger "My Dog Tulip," an animated feature based on the memoir by J.R. Ackerley, which describes his 14 year relationship with his dear Alsatian will be released by New Yorker this fall. The film features the voice work of Christopher Plummer, Lynn Redgrave, and Isabella Rossellini and has the distinction of being the first film to be hand drawn and painted using paperless computer technology. "My Dog Tulip" will be released September 1, 2010 at New York's Film Forum and will roll out nationally afterward. The deal was negotiated by Jose Lopez of New Yorker Films and Andrew Herwitz of the Film Sales Company. With the deal, New Yorker has theatrical, DVD/Blu-Ray, digital, and TV rights to the film.
