Some exciting news for the newest edition of NewFest (running from June 3rd-13th), New York City's LGBT Film Festival. It was announced today that this year's presenting sponsor is fashion designer Marc Jacobs.
“The creative energy Marc Jacobs brings to the world of fashion has also inspired and influenced the world of art and culture, not to mention LGBT activism," said Larry Burnett, Co-President of the NewFest Board in a press release. "We couldn’t be prouder to have the support of Marc Jacobs as our presenting sponsor."
In other NewFest related news, Lesli Klainberg has been named as the festival's Executive Director. Klainberg, an award-winning producer and director whose documentaries have screened at Berlin, Sundance and Provincetown Film Festivals, is also the owner of Orchard Films.
“I am very excited to be working officially with NewFest," said Klainberg in a press statement. "As an LBGT filmmaker myself, I am well aware of the vital role that film festivals play in getting films directly to our community and the independent film audience."
Lastly, it's been announced that, "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work," from filmmakers Ricki Stern and Annie Sunberg will screen as part of the festival's official lineup. Rivers promises to be in attendance for a Q&A following the screening.
