Provincetown Fest Takes On $650K "Whaler's Wharf" Campaign

The Provincetown International Film Festival unveiled a significant plan to cement its position in the Cape Cod, Massachusetts town. The not-for-profit organization, which organizes the annual June festival, announced plans Tuesday to purchase the Whaler's Wharf Cinema on Commercial Street in the heart of the resort community.

Under an agreement with Whalers Wharf LLC, PIFF has one year to raise $450,000, the purchase price of the space. An additional $200,000 is needed for renovations, equipment updating and operational costs. Fund-raising events are being planned at this time to take place in Provincetown, Boston, New York City, Fort Lauderdale and elsewhere across the country. PIFF plans to operate the complex on a year round basis with an expansion of its film programming, broadening its Film Society base and housing its executive offices. The group will collaborate with other local organizations for their events to be held in the space as well.

"I am thrilled to announce these plans. PIFF will become a vital part of the year-round arts community and economy of the Outer Cape," said PIFF Executive Director Gabrielle Hanna in a statement. "To accomplish this achievement I have enlisted the help of these amazing people below, who will serve on my Capital Campaign Committee."
