The IFC Center in NYC's Greenwich Village has announced its winter Stranger than Fiction film series, running Tuesdays from January 12, 2010 to March 9. The series will start with a preview of Vikram Jayanti's "Snowblind." Each screening will feature a discussion with the filmmakers and a gathering at the bar 99 Below. For more information, visit the website here.
"Snowblind" follows 23-year-old legally blind Rachael Scdoris as she competes in the Iditarod dogsled race across 1,100 miles of punishing Alaskan terrain. This sneak preview is part of a mission of STF to be among the first to present exciting new work in documentary. Some of the STF screenings, like "Running Fence," co-directed by Albert Maysles, which follows an installation by Christo and Jeanne-Claude in California.
In a statement, STF Artistic Director and Toronto doc programmer Thom Power said, "Half the experience of STF is watching the films. The other half is the conversations that take place afterward in the theater and at the bar." Additional highlights of the season include Dan Klores presenting his new film about an epic sports rivalry, "Winning Time: Reggie Miller Vs. The New York Knicks" and "A Night with Ross McElwee."
