The Writers Guild of America is now accepting submissions for the seventh annual WGA Documentary Screenplay Award, the WGA West and WGA East announced today. Submissions will be accepted through November 23, and nominees will be announced January 4, 2011. The winning screenplay will be announced at the WGA Awards on February 5, 2011.
Previous winners include Morgan Spurlock, for 2005's "Super Size Me," Alex Gibney, for 2006's "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" and 2007's "Taxi to the Dark Side," and Mark Monroe for "The Cove" in 2010. Judging from the buzz surrounding Gibney's newest film, "Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Elliot Spitzer," Gibney could be an early favorite in 2011.
To be eligible, scripts must be feature-length and have played theatrically in the U.S. for at least one week in 2010. Documentaries that received their first public exhibition via broadcast or cable television are not eligible for WGA awards consideration. Foreign-language films are eligible.
