Film Movement Acquires “Alamar”

Film Movement has acquired “Alamar,” a Spanish language film from Mexican director Pedro González-Rubio (“Toro Negro”). Film Movement describes the work as a “father and son drama set amongst the picturesque islands and floating homes of the Mexican Caribbean coastline.” “Alamar” will be the opening night feature of the Generation section at the upcoming Berlinale, and is currently in competition for the Rotterdam International Film Festival’s Tiger Award. “Alamar” will open theatrically at Film Forum in New York City on July 14 with a limited national roll-out to follow.

The acquisition of “Alamar” was negotiated by Film Movement’s President Adley Gartenstein and Vice President of Acquisitions and Distribution, Rebeca Conget, and Matthieu Giblin of MK2. “With ‘Alamar,’ director Pedro González-Rubio has indeed created a gem of a film,” said Gartenstein in a statement. “It is a true and honest celebration of the essence of life, love, family and nature. It is also proof that film as an artform is alive and well. We couldn’t be more proud to be its U.S. distributor.”
