Off to SILVERDOCS

I'm heading out to SILVERDOCS on Friday, this will be my fourth festival this year and my first time attending an all doc fest.

I'm psyched, I've worked closely with the SILVERDOCS team for about a year now and they are some of the friendliest, liveliest and most dedicated people I've had the pleasure of working with. I know they are going to put on a great festival. My only concern about the trip is flying into D.C., my mother-in-law was trapped in a D.C. airport for three hours last week because one passenger didn't like the look of another passenger's powdered baby formula. Scary stuff that baby formula.

I will miss most of the accompanying international documentary conference, which is a shame since I would really like to sit in on some of those panels, especially on the marketing of docs overseas. I also hear that the conf. is off to a hot start today with a "politically charged" keynote from Anand Patwardhan. Nothing like being next door to D.C. to get the politics flowing.

Friday night I'll probably catch the Dirty Work screening, where Ed Norton is rumored to making an appearance, but I've already seen that one (loved it!) and if I can catch any of the Int'l doc conference as it wraps up, I'll do that instead.

I'm going to try my best to get into Saturday night's Charles Guggenheim symposium honoring Barbara Kople. They're screening Harlan County USA which I have yet to see, should be the perfect time to catch it.

Then there's Sunday's (I think it's on Sunday) walking tour of Silver Spring guided by Speed Levitch, that's a must-do.

So there's my weekend in a nutshell. I'm expecting it to be a blast. If you can join us, I recommend you come on out, or better yet, head over there now. Just please do the traveling public a favor and leave the baby formula at home.
