Casting news for Von Trier's DOGVILLE sequel

Dogville_jiblog.jpg Reuters has reported that Willem Dafoe will be playing the James Caan role as Grace's father in part 2 of Lars Von Trier's sarcastically titled "USA Land of Opportunities" Trilogy. Dafoe joins a cast that includes Lauren Bacall, Jean-Marc Barr, Jeremy Davies, Isaach De Bankole, Danny Glover, Udo Kier, John C. Reilly and Chloe Sevigny. Interestingly enough, some of the DOGVILLE cast is returning and the film will again be shot on a chalk outlined stage. MANDERLAY will be set "in the American South during the 1930s and explore the repression of blacks." Being from the South myself I am most interested in how Von Trier will portray the area and of course, how the actors will convey the commonly misrepresented Southern accent. Hopefully the film will be as challenging, controversial, and confrontational as DOGVILLE was, which I found to be a welcome respite to much of the "playing it safe" narrative films that are making it into theaters these days.
