Boxing at Barbes in Brooklyn
When not programming NYC's most popular downtown super 8 film series, curator and filmmaker David Teague puts together special Flicker NYC shows at the lovely, Euro-centric bar in Park Slope, Barbes. The screenings differ from Flicker at the Knitting Factory in that Teague screens vintage super 8 footage around a theme. One particularly odd show on the anniversary of JFK's death was composed of footage about his assassination, a mockumentary renactment, and other film oddities, all accompanied with an eeiry alien soundscape created by a live theremin player. On May 20 he is a repeating a theme from last year, with Super 8 boxing films featuring Joe Louis, Max Baer, Muhammad Ali, and Rocky Marciano. Joel Forrester will be on hand to play live piano accompaniment. The show is free. For more details go to the Flicker NYC or Barbes website. Posted by jamesisrael on May 14, 2004 at 02:05PM |
