Film Fest with anti-Michael Moore, Conservative Agenda Is Formed

The Hollywood Reporter reports that two attorneys have formed a new film festival that will will be the anti-Fahrenheit 9/11, with a focus on screening films "which promote traditional American values." The American Film Renaissance is scheduled for Sept 9-11 in Dallas, TX and will screen around 2 dozen films, including Michael Moore Hates America, where filmmaker Michael Wilson turns the tables on Moore (watch the trailer here.) Another anti-Moore film screening is Michael & Me, made by talk-radio host Larry Elder that is a defense of gun ownership and attacks Bowling for Columbine.

Festival co-founders Jim and Ellen Hubbard founded the festival to be a "forum in the country where conservative filmmakers will be able to present, and filmgoers will be able to view, movies dedicated to celebrating pro-American values, messages and themes." They are against hassling exhibitors to not screen Fahrenheit 9/11, instead promoting conservatives to make their own films.

"Boycott efforts, like the one from the group MoveAmericaForward.org that is asking exhibitors not to show Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," "are for the weak," Hubbard said. "We want everyone to see Michael Moore's film," he said. "We also want everyone to see 'Michael Moore Hates America.' Conservatives complain about institutional bias in Hollywood. They need to stop whining and get out there and produce."

I read this the other day and though, "What a load of horseshit." I am tired of wrong-wingers trying to co-opt the fairness debate by trying to convince everyone that being an arch conservative is just as valid a position as being a progressive.

It's not.

Yes, I am being morally smug and feeling "holier than them," but let's face the facts. Believing in invading sovereign nations for economic reasons, governing a huge, mixed country from the POV of a religious fundamentalist, making all your rich friends richer while starving the poor are NOT as valid as healthcare for all, staying out of religious wars and making sure the working poor are not permanently disenfranchised.

Whew.

Jeez Mark, who's the gestapo here? What happened to freedom of expression? Let's bring it all out into the light of day and let everyone decide for themself. I don't want censorship by any side. Let it hang. What are you afraid of, that people can't think for themselves? (And no I'm not a conservative, just let freedom ring for all, not just the elitist types like you.)

Hello...have you ever heard of doing a Google search? Type in "American Film Renaissance" and you'll find the "sham" web page. Sheesh. By the way, they only need a permit from the PARKS DEPT if it takes place in a PARK. Have a nice day.
