The Onion: Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As ‘Fun, Watchable’

Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As ‘Fun, Watchable’

I saw the new “Star Trek” last nite and as this Onion piece mocks, I was wondering as well how hardcore Trek fans feel about a new, slick action packed Kirk and Spock with very little of the cerebral pontificating that was part of the original series.

Regardless, the new film is really entertaining, a little silly, and re-invents what was a tired, uninspired cliche when the last attempt “Enterprise” (with Scott Bakula as Captain) failed to ignite interest back in 2001.

Hopefully the new series will live long and prosper.

Zac Efron as Jonny Quest

So the word (via Coming Soon.net) is that teen heartthrob (gay idol, High School Musical blah blah meh) Zac Efron is gonna play Jonny Quest.

Hmmm. Not sure about this.. One, he’s too old. In the original series Jonny Quest is like 11.

What I do know is that growing up in The Seventies “Jonny Quest” was the coolest show on the planet.

Check out the riveting opening to the series… Take this and some Frankenberries and you have 30 mins of hyper kinetic fun.
