Support Rwanda While Getting Down to Q-Tip & DJ Evil Dee

There’s a cool fundraiser going on this week some of my film friends (i.e. doc maker Dana Bartle, who also serves as the unofficial iW sommelier) are involved with that not only is to support developing businesses in Rwanda but also to help in fostering filmmaking about the efforts to create businesses and jobs for Rwandan women.

In other words, more jobs, less violence.

Here’s the invite and link to RSVP and make a donation.

Honoring:
Jonathan Torgovnik of Foundation Rwanda
Featuring:
Rwandan Dance Performance by Claudine Mukamabano
Cameroon-Born Singer / Songwriter, Francis Jocky
Congolese & Cote d’Ivoirian Fashion Show
After-Party Hosted by Hip-Hop Icons, Q-Tip & DJ Evil Dee
Cocktail Reception with Non-Profit Partier, Dentist DJ
Starr African Cocktails, South African Wines & Kenyan Beer!!!

The Bpeace Rwanda program was founded in 2005, but now, with ethnic conflict reigniting on the western border, we need to create incentives to preserve peace. More jobs means less violence. This school will help make that mission a reality.

My Snag Doc Picks - OUTSIDERS, ODDITIES, and REBELS

SnagFilms offers a new cool tool where you can grab your favorite docs from their library and create your own theater.

I perused the collection and found some recent films culled from the past few years at festivals that I liked, including:

Films about OUTSIDERS, ODDITIES, and REBELS:

Off The Grid
Confessions of a Superhero
Dig!

Films about FOOD, OVER CONSUMPTION, and the INDUSTRIALIZATION of our food supply:

-The Future of Food
Super Size Me

Check ‘em out… You can also easily make your own multiplex.

“The Bird and The Bee” Valentine’s Day EP!

birdbee.jpg

Okay, this is just too sweet… (in a good kinda way.)

The Bird and The Bee are releasing a 4 song Valentine’s Day EP today just in time for all you love birds out there.

You can even send your sweetie a song.

Enjoy!

From the official press release:

Announcing the February 12th release of the bird and the bee One Too Many Hearts EP!

A four-song Valentine’s Day EP from the bird and the bee featuring three new originals—“Birthday,” “Last Day of Our Love” & “Come As You Were”—with music by Greg Kurstin & Inara George’s trademark lyrics, sung sweetly but laced with her wry observations on love found and lost. Inara also sings a duet with Gus Seyffert on “Tonight You Belong to Me,” a 1920s song performed by Bernadette Peters and Steve Martin in the 1979 film The Jerk.

Criterion DVD Design for “The Ice Storm”

I always admire the graphic design at Criterion for offering risky, bold ways of marketing classic films: maintaining the mood and images while also making it appear fresh and new.

The DVD design for their new release of Ang Lee’s “The Ice Storm”  is equally impressive.

And “Pierrot le fou”,  c’est excellent.
