In honor of the triumphant return of The Venture Bros to Cartoon Network, I was going to post the Season 4 Premiere. But after watching it, I felt it might be a little too much for any people venturing into the Venture-verse for the first time - especially because it picks up on many hanging plot threads from Season 3. So instead I decided to share one of my favorite episodes from the first season: Ghosts of the Sargasso. If you don’t love the David Bowe riff in the opening minutes, I hereby declare you don’t have a sense of humor.
Watch it here. (Maybe it’ll even help you come up with a Halloween costume)
In 1991 we had Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze featuring a Vanilla Ice cameo where he transforms “Go, White Boy, Go, White Boy, go” into “Go, Ninja, Go, Ninja, Go.” The next year Quentin Tarantino burst onto the scene with Reservoir Dogs. Now, finally a new mashup answers the age old question: What would have happened if Quentin Tarantino was tapped to turn Reservoir Dogs into a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie?
The Venture Bros. Season 4 promo from Comic Con now online at Adult Swim and it pure fun. For those who know nothing about this show, it started as a Johnny Quest parody and quickly developed into a hilarious exploration of pop culture with references ranging to the Four Four (now the Impossibles with Mr. Impossible originally voiced by Stephen Colbert and now Bill Hader) to David Bowe to The Neverending Story to GI Joe and Voltron. Netflix the first the first season and you won’t regret it (fair warning the first couple of episodes are on the weaker side). Promo is below.
My favorite moment? Sgt Hatred’s apparent meltdown in the panic room. For true Venture fans check out Publick Nuisance creator Jackson Publick’s blog. There will be spoilers there for newbies to the series.
