I don't tend to refer to my job much in this blog. Today I'm going to make an exception. I have endlessly growing stack of tapes that sits next to my computer everyday (with an offshoot on the endtable by my couch at home). Some of these films you hate, some you enjoy, and a few you love (hey - it's all taste). The hardest ones, though, are the ones that you know are awful, have no real prospects for the company, yet, for some reason, captivate with their story (usually I get hooked on one characters romantic entanglements - I'm sure that's no suprise to those who know - not that anyone who doesn't know me ever reads this thing). I've always found these guilty pleasure submissions (and make no mistake, they do make me feel guilty) to be one of the most unexpected joys of the job. Some may say the real joy comes from discovering an undiscovered gem, and that's true, but that also is the job. It's the guilty pleasure submissions that are the strangest perk.
