I think I've lost the awards bug. I used to block out whole days for Oscar watching prep-time, make bets about the nominees, enter too many Oscar pools, collect those for-your-consideration ads, and be frustrated every morning when I'd get to school and no one would care one bit that Braveheart one best picture. Now, I've somehow sadly fallen into the category that once drove me nuts. I want to care about the nominees today and the awards a month away. I really do. But after being hit over the head with award show after award show and critics award after critics award, I'd almost rather watch the president's state of the union address (almost). Maybe it's the near utter lack of surprises in nominees and winners or the endless reputation of the thank you speeches, but my youthful enthusiasm for the event has gone the way of David Letterman.
