First there was Deadwood's success. Now we have "the gay cowboy" movie not only no only tearing up awards, but getting a strong reception at the box office. Do we have to wait for Brad Pitt to make his Western before Hollywood decides the genre isn't dead? The Peckinpah DVD set will only last me so long, and unfortunately I won't be in Berlin to catch Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid on the big screen. Our president has been trying to act like a cowboy for 5 years now (and poorly at that) and it's been working for him. I'm sure someone sees the box office... someone?

The Three Burial of Melquiades Estrada was probably my favorite American film of 2005 (just a tiny bit ahead of The Squid and the Whale). That counts as a western, right?
