The Webby Awards announced their nominees today. You can watch excerpts from them in the video above and read the full list here.

Congrats to my buddy Zack Sultan and his colleagues at FullSIX NY for their work on the Webby-nominated site Please Fix the iPhone.

I love the way the Webbys give off a hip, free-spirited vibe while simultaneously highlighting real innovation from a wide variety of amateurs and professionals. This year is an important one, given the prominence of online media in the presidential election (represented by the efforts of "Sarah Palin Vlogs" and Sarah Silverman, among others). However, I must point out two noticeable exceptions: David at the dentist and the Christian Bale remix.

There's a good amount of representation from the film world as well. AMC Digital's video coverage of the Cannes Film Festival has been nominated for an award, and so has the online film club Upload Cinema.

Here's my coverage of the 2008 Webbys. I'm excited to attend again this year.

You can vote now for the Webby's People's Voice award.

I'm a big fan of the webbys -- and excited I have a nomination this year in the drama series category (the show is called Speedie Date - check it out). I've been going onto the site and voting for a couple categories each day. I'm hoping to have them all covered by the end of the voting period.
