‘Last Year at Marienbad’ with Fart Jokes?

This ad recently showed up on The Awl.

Can someone please explain to me what the fuck is going on here? I’m all about getting art films to new demographics, but Alain Resnais’s reflexive masterpiece—one of my favorite movies of all time—deserves better than this.

Here’s a funny take on this somewhat insulting promotional gimmick.

I think it’s sort of damaging to film culture when someone gets away with an idea like this.
