Given the option of seeing Hellboy II or Hancock the other day, I chose the latter -- not because I was anticipating it more (quite the opposite actually, but I'll see the new Hellboy eventually), but because early reviews had expressed enough intellectual curiosity about the movie to pique my own. David Denby's unexpected rave review sealed the deal for me. Truth be told, Hancock doesn't entirely work -- but it's still disarmingly thoughtful and fairly unique. I've always been fascinated by superhero satires almost as much as superhero movies themselves -- Meteor Man was an early favorite -- and Hancock fits that category perfectly. At Cinematical, I offer some elaboration.
