I saw Debra Granik's "Winter's Bone" at its final Sundance screening last January, when it had already built up enough buzz to suggest it would win the dramatic feature competition (it did). You never know what to believe when it comes to festival buzz, but in this case it made a lot of sense. "Winter's Bone" is a small, quiet film, but the eerie detective plot gets under your skin in a highly effective fashion. Here's my indieWIRE review, which I wrote at the festival. I had the opportunity to elaborate on the film over the phone yesterday with USA Today reporter Anthony Breznican, whose "Winter's Bone" feature came out today. Watch the trailer above and check out the movie in select theaters this Friday.
