As I wrote some months ago, 20th Century Fox is digging into its vaults to release a cornucopia of titles from the 1930s through the 1960s on made-to-order DVDs.

Ho-hum. That sums up my reaction to this competently-made but uninspired action movie about the character last seen on his own in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

I’ve often disparaged films for denying us a character we can root for, but every rule has its exceptions, and if there’s anyone who can break the rules and get away with it, it’s Woody Allen.

I yearn for a summer movie season without sequels. I know, call me a dreamer, but watching movies like "Red 2" is positively dispiriting.

Some people value style over content; I prefer a melding of the two, which is why I found Nicolas Winding Refn’s "Drive" so irritating and pretentious.

Words like “legend” and “icon” get tossed around a lot in Hollywood, but the people who built the Walt Disney company, creating timeless films and beloved theme park attractions, earned those titles long ago.

I’ve been counting on savvy filmmaker Guillermo del Toro to give us something more than a "Transformers" clone, and my faith in him hasn’t been misplaced.
